End of nations [Re-Blogged]

Something to think about for the Futurists & Sci-Fi Writers among us. Is there an alternative to countries?

  1. Might… MAYBE.. solve a couple of problems. Would Definitively cause FAR MORE. What you are talking about is Transnational Progressivisim. It would end up with the Bureaucracies controlling EVERYTHING. Civil wars would become a greater problem. Elected representative would either become a thing of the past, practically hereditary or completely ineffective. all three ways lead to corruption and policies that benefit the few or the ‘right-thinking’ With no-where else for people to go that is. The only way I can see it happening is if we find a way for dissidents to escape the solar system and colonize outside it. Just saying.

    • I’m not convinced. The elimination of nation-states removes another excuse for Tribalism, which in turn makes man’s inhumanity to man, so much easier. The EU was the first step on the way towards a diluting of National borders. A grand experiment that I hope to see repeated and expanded.

      • I’m sorry, but that assumes that there isn’t a core part of the human makeup that relies on Tribalisim on some level or another. A rather large assumption. If You can’t see the potential for disaster in a ‘World government’ then you are blind. Especially when we already effectively (financially) have one and it isn’t working well. When 82 people control half or more of the world’s wealth, they exercise effective control of policy in the world. And that level of inequity of power, historically, has led to war of one kind or another.

      • There are less unhealthy ways we can channel tribalism. Also the potential abuse by a one world government… well I’m not sure it could be worse than the current abuse of third world nations.
