St Patrick’s Day
Today we celebrate the British (Roman Era) man Maewyn Succat, later historically merged with his predecessor Palladius (who may have been the first Christian who was sent to Ireland). Famous for driving the snakes out of Éire (a metaphor for driving out evil, even if we don’t exactly know what evil he ejected), an island nation that never had any snakes.
So, as you kick back and enjoy your drinks, raise a glass to the uncanonized (in the roman-catholic tradition) saint and his favourite colour… blue.
Isn’t history fun!
P.S. Today EVERYONE is Irish, except the English who take offence at the idea, even if they probably actually are.
